Cherishing the seaweed as a tasty garnish and gift of the sea seems respectful as well as practical, which is why we propose the sprinkle method. Dr. Suess was known to sprinkle kelp powder to make his “green eggs”-- we also suggest it on rice, in salad dressing, as a soup garnish, on toast with oil.

Smithereen Farm

Smithereen Farm, located on Cobscook Bay in Pembroke, Maine, is a MOFGA certified organic farm spanning 150 acres, including 60 acres of blueberry fields. The farm, situated at the end of Leighton Point Peninsula, benefits from the area's unique tidal phenomenon known as the "Reversing Falls," providing a rich environment for both land and sea cultivation.

Smithereen Farm is renowned for its diverse operations, which include managing heritage fruit trees for hard cider and vinegar, cultivating herb gardens, gathering wild seaweeds, and producing a variety of products from woodland fruits and meadow herbs. The farm also features a U-Pick patch for wild Maine blueberries and strawberries and has expanded into oyster and seaweed farming in Schooner Cove.

Led by Severine von Tscharner Welcome and Terran Welcome, the farm integrates a deep respect for the land with a commitment to environmental stewardship and local food production. Severine, with her extensive background in the young farmers' movement and agroforestry, and Terran, with his experience in organic farming and community service, drive the farm's mission.

Powerful Seaweed

The organic wild seaweeds included —Cutler Coast Nori, Sea Lettuce, Sugar Kelp, Dulse, and Sweet Bay—offer a combined powerhouse of nutrients. They provide high levels of protein, essential vitamins (A, B12, C, D, E, K), and minerals such as iodine, iron, calcium, magnesium, and potassium. Together, they support thyroid health, boost immune function, enhance skin health, promote muscle function, and offer strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. These seaweeds are a versatile and nutrient-dense addition to any diet.

Sesame Seeds

Sesame seeds, small yet mighty, are packed with rich, nutty flavor and a wealth of nutrients. These seeds add a delightful crunch and depth of taste that complements the oceanic essence of seaweed. Beyond their savory appeal, sesame seeds are a powerhouse of minerals like calcium, iron, and magnesium, making each sprinkle not only delicious but also nourishing. Their natural oils also contribute to heart health.
