Cutting down on plastic is a big part of living sustainably. Plastic is harmful to both the environment and our health. Overall it just gives us a bad feeling how much plastic we come into contact with every day and we vowed to reduce the amount of plastic allowed into our homes as much as possible. These are some of the plastic-free alternatives we have been using lately:
1. Stainless steel water bottles
Single-use plastic water bottles are a major contributor to plastic waste. Instead of using disposable plastic bottles, invest in a high-quality stainless steel water bottle that you can refill and reuse. This is one of our favorites.
2. Beeswax wraps
Beeswax wraps are a great alternative to plastic cling wrap. Made from cotton and beeswax, these wraps are reusable and can be used to wrap food, cover bowls, or even as a sandwich bag.
Our founder, Johanna, refuses to allow cling wrap into her new home. She bought these instead. Overall she is loving them so far.

3. Glass food storage containers
Glass food storage containers are a great alternative to plastic containers, and helpful when beeswax covers cannot do the job. They are durable, dishwasher safe, and do not contain any harmful chemicals that can leach into your food.
Try out these ones, they have a lot of handy small containers. You may also need a few larger containers.
4. Bamboo utensils
Instead of using plastic utensils, consider using bamboo utensils. They are lightweight, durable, and can be reused for years to come. We like these ones because they come in a chic and handy travel bag.
5. Natural cleaning products
Many traditional cleaning products contain harmful chemicals that can be harmful to both the environment and our health. Consider switching to natural cleaning products, such as vinegar and baking soda, to reduce your environmental impact and create a healthier home environment. Invest in some glass spray bottles and make your own cleaners. It is easier than you may think. And you will feel better about cleaning day.
6. Compostable trash bags
If you have a compost bin, consider using compostable trash bags instead of traditional plastic bags. These bags are made from plant-based materials and can be composted along with your food scraps.
By making these simple swaps, you can significantly reduce the amount of plastic in your life and create a more sustainable home environment for yourself and your loved ones. It just feels better. So join us in taking a step towards a more eco-friendly lifestyle and embrace these plastic-free products for our homes.
